Obituary

John Hendrickson, 91, of Greeley, peacefully entered Heaven on May 1 at Bonell Good Samaritan Community. The oldest son of Julius and Jennie (Carlson) Hendrickson, he was born March 8, 1918. A lifelong resident of Weld County, he attended Lone Tree School for grades 1-8 and Eaton High School for the next two years. At age 15 his formal schooling ended and he helped his father farm during the Depression and in the years following. He and his brother, Carl, had a farming partnership for 14 years. He married Lucille Johnson on December 23, 1945 at the home of the bride's parents west of Eaton. Their home was located on the farm that is now Governor's Ranch Subdivision. They had been married 55 years at the time of her death on May 27, 2001. To this union were born two children, John Douglas and Donna Lucille. Mr. Hendrickson was also father-in-law to Avril Louise and Grandpa to Cassia Louise and Gwenna Lucille. He farmed and fed cattle and sheep in the Eaton area from 1946-1971. In early 1972 until his retirement in 1990 he was a customer and cattle buyer for Miller Feed Lots, Inc. in LaSalle. Mr. Hendrickson was a member of the Evangelical Free Church of Eaton where he served in various capacities. It was in this church at age 15 that he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He enjoyed going to Monday morning coffee and other activities at the Legacy Senior Center. He and his wife were charter members of the Swedish Heritage Society of Northern Colorado. They traveled to Sweden three times where he had the privilege of meeting and getting acquainted with several of his aunts, uncles and cousins. He took great delight in spending time with his two granddaughters. As long as he was able, he liked working in his yard and mowing his lawn on his riding mower. He enjoyed watching the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos, rarely holding back his opinions on their performance. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Hendrickson of Greeley; son Doug Hendrickson and his wife Avril and two granddaughters, Cassia and Gwenna Hendrickson, all of Denver. He is also survived by his siblings Hulda Peterson, Carl Hendrickson and his wife Lorraine, and Dora Carlson all of Greeley and Eileen Osborn and husband Paul of Highlands Ranch as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, his parents, and his sister Elsa Hendrickson. Visitation will be held at Moser Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Evangelical Free Church of Eaton at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8. Private family burial will be at the Eaton Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the John Hendrickson Memorial Fund in care of Moser Funeral Service, 3501 S. 11th Avenue, Evans, Colorado 80620.
