John L McCoy, known to all as "Mick", 75, of Greeley, CO, passed away on April 6th from pulmonary complications brought on by successful radiation treatment for Lung Cancer.
Mick was born on October 8, 1948, to Harvey, JR, and Lois (Hillman) McCoy in WaKeeney, KS. After graduating from Trego County High School in 1967, he went on to study speech and theater for a short time at Southern Colorado State College in Pueblo, CO. While having many occupations in his life, most were in restaurant ownership and management.
In 1968, he met and married Louetta (DesMarteau) McCoy, and went on to have two children, Wendy and Derek. Mick was known for his love of singing (known as the singing cashier during his employment with Safeway), baseball, trips to Blackhawk Casinos, and for his wife, LuLu. In 1983, Mick moved his family from Kansas to Colorado. Here he and his family flourished and grew strong. His daughter stayed close with all her children, enjoying having grandparents so close. Derek joined the Army but came home as often as he could. His family felt his love wherever they roamed!
Mick was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Monte.
He is survived by his wife, Louetta McCoy; his two children, Wendy (Dennis) Messmer and Derek (Carolyn) McCoy; his seven grandchildren, Mitchell (Jenna) Kammerer, Joseph (Dayana Pena) Messmer, Evan (Maura Smith) Messmer, Alex McCoy, Hunter McCoy, Tera (Jared) De La Cerda, and Julia Geimer; and three great-grandchildren Maelynn and Merryn Kammerer, and Colt De La Cerda.
A celebration of Mick's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024, at the Eaton Christian Fellowship Church, 303 Maple Avenue in Eaton, Colorado.
