John Edward McArthur passed away March 16, 2021 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Ft. Collins from complications due to COVID. He was born in Greeley, CO to Carolyn Ruth (Selander) McArthur and Edward Gale McArthur. John enjoyed a happy early life growing up in the Glenmere neighborhood of Greeley. He attended Maplewood Elementary School, Heath Junior High School and Greeley Central High School from which he graduated in 1967.
John went on to attend Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Menlo College in San Francisco, in addition to studying a semester at sea with World Campus Afloat, where he was able to traverse the globe. He returned to Greeley and worked for his father at McArthur Oldsmobile-Cadillac. He worked in real estate sales and eventually gravitated to the construction industry in which he spent most of his adult life.
John was a gregarious fellow and could make friends in an instant with just about anybody. He also was quite a "character", usually leaving a lasting impression on whomever he met, one way or another. He loved his work as a contractor, working up until he died. He was an avid fan of shooting sports, especially single action shooting, where he could work with early period firearms and wear early period clothing. John was a Chapter Leader for the John Birch Society and there are probably not very many people he did not "Birch" on at one time or another.
John is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Mike McArthur. His real family were his friends, too numerous to list here. He will be greatly missed. Vaya Con Dios, Juan.
A celebration of John's life will be held at a future time.
