John Mathew Salazar 82, of Evans, died on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Hospice Inpatient Unit at North Colorado Medical Center.

He was born on February 2, 1935 in Ault, Colorado to Delfino and Claudia (Romero) Salazar. He attended the Deaf and Blind School in Colorado Springs where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for their basketball team. He worked as a printer for many years and later worked for the Colorado Rockies Baseball team in concessions. As a younger gentleman, he attended St. Bernadette Catholic Church and more recently attended St. Mary Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Deaf Club in Denver. He was a passionate athlete for every sport.

He is survived by his sons Anthony, Ronny, Tommy, Dave, Danny and Robert Salazar, brothers Louis and Jim Salazar, sister Delores Pacheco, half-sister, Victoria Quintana, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Delfino and Claudia Salazar, and brothers Ernest, Bernardo and Joe Salazar.

Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Church, 1000 Country Acres Dr. in Johnstown. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. also at the church. Interment Johnstown Cemetery.
