Obituary

Joy Ellen Rosson Bartlett was born May 25, 1936 in Taft, Texas, the daughter of James C. and Nelia Marie Rosson. She passed away August 4, 2020 and is survived by her husband Ralph Bartlett and daughters Melinda Grinolds of Loma, CO; Susan Bartlett of Loveland, CO; and Julie Martinez of Greeley, CO. She also is survived by six grandchildren: Cody, Casey Lynn, and James Grinolds of Loma, CO; Bailey Sims and Jay Blythe of Loveland, CO; Savannah Martinez of Greeley, CO; and great-grandson Owen Grinolds of Fruita, CO.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert Rosson, and an infant daughter, Patricia Kay.

She attended public schools in Taft, TX, graduating in 1954. She earned a BA degree in English and Education from Baylor University in Waco, TX. After graduation, Joy taught at Red Rocks Junior High in Morrison, CO from 1958-1962. Later she taught at Patterson Preschool in Jefferson County from 1978-1993.

After Ralph’s retirement, Joy and Ralph moved to Taft, TX to take care of Joy’s parents. After 17 years there, they moved to Eaton, CO to be near their children and grandchildren. Joy liked to read, knit, quilt, and communicate with friends and family on the internet. She did a lot of sewing for herself and her three daughters.

Wherever she lived, Joy was active in the local Baptist church and served as a Sunday School teacher for at least 40 years. She spent a great deal of time visiting and crafting birthday and anniversary cards for family and friends. Family members and family gatherings were always of utmost importance throughout her life.

A memorial service for Joy will be held at 11:45 am on August 16th at the First Baptist Church of Eaton, 228 2nd Street, Eaton, CO 80615.
