Leslie E. "Les" Thorn, 70 of Kersey, died on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at the Hospice & Palliative Care Inpatient Unit in Greeley. Les was born on May 5, 1938 in Harrold, South Dakota to Enos and Sophie (Hoffman) Thorn. He graduated from Harrold High School in 1957. He later attended Huron College in Huron, South Dakota where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Education in 1961. He went on to teach in Miller, South Dakota. Les later moved to Colorado where he taught and coached in Deer Trail, Arickaree and Akron schools. He lived in Akron, Colorado from 1967 until 1990 when he moved to the Greeley/Kersey areas. He was an avid golfer and hunter. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Linda Byers-Thorn of Kersey; his mother, Sophie Thorn of Pierre, SD; his daughter and her husband, Dana and Troy Allen of Arvada, CO; 2 sons, Darin Thorn and his wife Denise of Gunnison, CO and Devin Thorn of Akron, CO; 5 grandchildren, Baylie, Lynzee, Kiley, Tyler and Erick; 2 sisters, Annette Lambert of San Jose, CA and Janice Englehart of Pierre, SD and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Enos Thorn; a brother, Gerald Thorn and a sister, Betty Krull. A memorial service to celebrate Les' life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 8, 2008 at the Brenner Funeral Home, 175 W. 3rd Street in Akron.
