Lester “Les” Keith Oliver, Sr. 81, of Eaton, passed away at his home on Monday, January 21, 2019.
He was born January 4, 1938 in Rockford, Illinois to Harold Irvin Oliver & Agnes O’Day and resided there until 2006 when he moved to Colorado. Les continued taking classes after high school and learned many trades. He was a diesel mechanic and a concrete contractor. He enjoyed working with his hands and he passed that love on to his son, Lester Jr. who took over for his father when he retired. On August 25, 1962, he married LaVonne Catherine Mintz in Loves Park, Illinois.
Les was a retired teamster and hardworking, but had hobbies outside of work. He enjoyed golfing, horseback riding (he owned many horses over the years), racing stock cars at Rockford Speedway, fishing and many other outdoor activities. Les was a great husband, and a loving father and grandfather. He lived his life for his family and enjoyed working and providing for his loved ones. He was strong willed and would do anything for family and friends. He enjoyed his later years working with his son, Lester, Jr. owner of Cast in Place. He has gone to be with his son and daughter to heaven and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, LaVonne Oliver of Eaton, a son and his wife, Curtis (Kathy)Oliver of Machesney Park, Illinois, daughters, Nicole (Steve) Kuhn of Eaton, Corrine Oliver of Chicago, Illinois, and Susan (Mike) Maes, of San Antonio, Texas, a sister, Else Crosby of Rockford, Illinois, 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Agnes Oliver, a son, Lester Oliver, Jr. who passed in 2008, a daughter, Katherine Oliver, who passed in 1968, and 3 brothers, Harold, Gerald, and Donald Oliver.
A graveside service is planned for 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Eaton Cemetery.
