Louis Montoya, 76, of Platteville died on Thursday, January 15, 2015.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Lucy, his daughter Leticia, and his grandson Levi Montoya.

He was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico on May 12, 1938 to Placido and Amalia Montoya.

He lived in Brush, Colorado and attended school there until the end of his freshman year. His family moved to Platteville, where he graduated with the class of 1956.

In 1961, he married Lucy Delgado in Fort Lupton. They lived in California until 1973, at which time they returned to Platteville. He was a mail carrier for 30 years, retiring in 1997. He worked in Greeley the last 24 years and enjoyed knowing many of his customers. Louis enjoyed camping and his recent move to life in the country. He always looked forward to the monthly breakfast with his graduating class.

Louis served in the U.S. Army during the Cuban Crisis. He was stationed at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Mr. Montoya also leaves 3 brothers: John (Pat) of Platteville, Victor (Annie) of Longmont, and Eloy (Angelina) of California; 3 sisters: Ernestine (Robert) Rodriguez of Parker, Emma (Robert) Lerma of Whittier, California and Josie (Richard) Semmlar of Denver. He was loved, respected, and will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Delma (Augustine) Rodriguez and Andrea (Dan) Trujillo, and brothers Conrad (Bessie), Frank (Mary), and Benny, who was a Purple Heart recipient who lost his life in WWII.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 520 Marion Street in Platteville. His urn will be buried at a later date with Military Honors.
