Obituary

Lucille (Luz) Zamora, 101, of Platteville, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2011, at her home. Luz was born May 15, 1910 to Tomas and Isabel Hernandez, in Dodge City, Kansas. In March of 1926, she married Gabriel Zamora in Holly, Colorado. They lived in Holly and Gilcrest before moving to Platteville, Colorado. Luz was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and of the St. Nicholas Rosary Society. In 2007, she was named Grand Marshall of the Harvest Days Parade. Her many hobbies included gardening, cooking, sewing, but most of all caring for her family and friends. She loved to care for her dog, Mighty Dog. She enjoyed her garden as she sang "It's A Beautiful Morning". Luz is survived by her sons, Simon (Myna) and Jimmy (Selia) Zamora, her daughters, Kay McWilliams, Isabel Hall, Mickey Zamora, Mary Lou (Louie) Salazar, Elaine Sedillos, Dodi Schmidt, and Theresa Zamora, her daughters-in-law, Kelly, Lucy and Delia Zamora, her sister, Monica Natividad, her brother, John Hernandez, 43 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. At the time of her passing, there were 5 living generations of the Zamora family. Luz is preceded in death by her parents, Tomas and Isabel Hernandez, her husband, Gabriel Zamora, sons, Tom, Ben, Louis, Gabriel Jr. and wife Marge as well as daughter Sonia & husband Rudy Rojas, and 5 grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2011 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Platteville. Interment Mizpah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with the Recitation of Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church.
