Macario Sotelo 90, of Greeley, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, June 23, 2023.
He was born on March 1, 1933, in Lubbock, Texas to Maria Sotelo. As a young man in the mid 1950's he met the love of his life, Naomi Ramirez. They were married on September 13, 1971. Together they moved to Colorado in the 1990's. Macario was a Christian man who was passionate about serving the Lord. He occasionally attended Eternal Rock Church.
Macario enjoyed listening to country music and made many memories with his grandchildren on family road trips. Macario was a big fan of cowboy western movies and especially enjoyed those starring John Wayne. Tombstone was on the top of his favorites list. He is remembered as a very kind, caring and patient father and grandfather. He had a cowboy's heart. One of his hobbies was perfecting his home-made beef jerky. He was a jokester, always making those around him laugh. His sense of humor healed the soul.
Macario is survived by three of his children, Olga Sotelo Melendrez (Johnny) of Lubbock, Texas, Robert Sotelo of Greeley, Colorado, and Irene Sotelo of Greeley, Colorado, 19 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother Maria, a brother Joe Flores, his wife Naomi and two sons Max Sotelo and Marcos Sotelo.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2023, from 4 -7 p.m. at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel, 3501 11th Avenue in Evans, Colorado.
