Marie Sauer, 87, formerly of Evans, died Aug. 14, 2011 in Keenesburg. She was born in Fairfield, NE to Lloyd and Mary (Ransom) Illingworth. Her father and two brothers raised her after her mother died when Marie was only six months old. She was the valedictorian of her senior class at Fairfield High School and soon found employment at the US Army Air Corps base at Grand Island, where she met Frank Sauer. They were married on Sept. 8, 1949 and had four children. Together, they operated a jewelry store in South Bend, IN for many years. The family moved to Riverside, CA briefly before making the Greeley area their home for over forty years. Mrs. Sauer was a long-time member of West Greeley Baptist church. Although Marie was an accomplished executive secretary, her true calling was devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She instilled in her children respect and care for the feelings of others. Marie's hobbies centered around music. She loved to play piano and sing, especially hymns. Her priorities were God, family, friends and animals (not necessarily in that order). Marie was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Nancy. She is survived by three children and multiple grandchildren and will be missed by many. If you are interested in attending a memorial service to celebrate Marie's life or send a private condolence please send email to misauer@charter.net. As she had requested, Marie was inurned between her husband, Frank, and daughter, Nancy, in the northwest section of the Evans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to your local humane society or local church music program.
