Marilynn Kaye Buxman, 67 of Greeley, peacefully went to her eternal home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 14, 2014. She was born to Harold Buxman and Doris (Kurtz) Buxman at Ebenezer Hospital in Brush, Colorado on December 17, 1946. She was the oldest of four children and the only daughter. Marilynn was raised in the Eaton area where her family is in the farming business. A 1964 Eaton High School graduate, she was always an Eaton "Red", and felt her education there prepared her well for life. Further education to obtain her RN and BSN was at St. Luke's School of Nursing, University of Northern Colorado, University of Colorado, and the University of Phoenix. She said her career as a critical care nurse was a challenging and rewarding one as she worked as staff nurse, charge nurse, manager, and director in this field. She felt enriched by meeting people from different backgrounds, nationalities, and cultures. To maintain and to enhance her nursing knowledge, she traveled to many conferences all over the United States. Marilynn annually attended the National Teaching Institutes where approximately 10,000 critical care nurses met for symposiums, classes, and lectures in critical healthcare. In this dynamic environment she was motivated and inspired by the interaction with many accomplished people in her field. She was delighted to see her many friends and colleagues from all over the United States year after year at the NTI. Her CCRN certification from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses was a source of pride for her. Throughout her own career Marilynn demonstrated a special ability to mentor and encourage other nurses in their careers. After working in the Denver area for 35 years, she felt a yearning to return to her roots and to provide some care for her aging parents. She worked at Greeley, Fort Collins, and Loveland hospitals, but was forced to retire in 2003 due to a work-related injury. Maintaining her license, she did volunteer work in the health care field in the community and for her church's medical response team. Marilynn spent as much time as possible traveling from coast to coast, Alaska, Canada, Mexico and England. She especially liked the northwest area of the United States and the west coast of Canada and made numerous trips to these areas. She was an avid gardener who produced beautiful flowers, and delicious herbs and vegetables. Marilynn treasured her nieces and nephews from babyhood to adulthood, and stated she had some great experiences with them. She was all about encouraging them to recognize their individual gifts and talents. Recently she wrote out these thoughts for living: be true to your faith and beliefs; be loyal to your friends; keep active; grow plants and flowers; mentor the next generations whenever possible. She is survived by her parents, her brother Melvin (Marcia), her brother Ronald (Trish), her brother Donald (Lisa), 16 nieces and nephews, 8 great-nieces and nephews, and Beverly, her close friend who was always there for her. She will also be sorely missed by her aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends who were school friends, nursing friends, and from her church community. A memorial service to celebrate Marilyn's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014 at the First Assembly of God Church, 3000 W. 16th Street. Visitation from 9:00 a.m. until time of service on Monday at the church. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial gifts may be made to the Greeley Wesleyan Church.
