Mark Anthony Schmidt was born on October 12, 1970, to Harold and Vada Schmidt in Moundridge Kansas. He went to be with Jesus on February 5, 2024, after two and half years of battling heart disease.
Dad's family moved to Uniontown, Alabama when he was seven years old from Kansas. He enjoyed farming with his dad and working at the dairy with his brother Lavern. Life took him to various places, including 34 years in Newbern, Alabama. He followed his dream, moved out west, and spent 11 years in Burlington, Wyoming. In his final chapter, he spent two fulfilling years in Windsor, Colorado.
Dad shared 34 years of marriage with his beautiful wife, Gloria Schmidt. They exchanged vows on September 2, 1989, in Greensboro, Alabama, and together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, four children, and shared dreams.
Dad loved the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite at a young age. His faith provided a foundation for his values and guided him in all aspects of life. Dad found joy in farming, ranching, camping, cooking, and family time. His love for the outdoors was apparent in the adventures he shared with family and friends. Dad's heart attack two years ago was the start of his battle with heart disease. Dad's determination to beat life's challenges taught us giving up was never an option.
Dad's love for his family was evident. He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Schmidt of Windsor, CO; Nicole and Wade Unruh of Lavonia, GA; Jessica and Keelan Unruh of Windsor, CO; Blake and Katy Schmidt of Greybull, WY; and Kady Schmidt of Windsor, CO. Along with five adoring grandchildren.
Dad is also remembered by his mother, Vada Schmidt of Brooksville, MS; Galen and Karleen Schmidt of Brooksville, MS; Lavern and Joyce Schmidt of Greensboro, AL, Dave and Deb Schmidt of Guntersville, AL; Don and Anne Schmidt of Louisville, GA; Marsha and Brad Smith of Fountain Run, KY, and Ladeen and Terry Warkentin, of Fountain Run, KY.
Those waiting for him in Heaven are Harold Schmidt, Father, Dan Miller, Father-in-law, Anna Mae, Mother-in-law, Judy Schmidt, Sister-in-law, Steve Miller, Brother-in-law.
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the CICU Staff and the rest of the UC Health Staff at the University of Colorado Hospital for their tireless effort to make Dad well again. We will miss you so much, Dad!
