Mary Frances Wheatley passed away peacefully June 16th, 2007 surrounded by her family in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was 86 years old. Mary was born December 8, 1920 in Salina Kansas to James Pumphrey and Ruby Gorman Pumphrey. She attended William Woods College for Women in Fulton, Missouri. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She married James Wells Ferriter, a fighter pilot in the Air Force. He died in 1954 at 34 years of age. She then re-married John Wheatley, also an Air Force Pilot. They were married until his death in 1998 at the age of 77. She worked for a time at Applied Physics Lab in Bethesda, Maryland. She was a gifted artist, pilot, and an avid golfer. She was a master duplicate bridge player and loved cards. She also had a special affinity for animals, especially cats. In the years after her second husbands death, she spent a lot of time with her family and enjoyed them, especially her great-grandchildren. Survivors include her daughter, Pegi Diane Crook of Fort Collins, 3 grandchildren, Scott Crook of Fort Collins, Kevin Crook of Steamboat, and Kristi Foreman of Fort Collins and 2 great grandchildren Robert Scott Crook and Ashley Elizabeth Crook. In addition to her husbands, she is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robert Scott Crook. A memorial service to celebrate Mary's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel, 3501 S. 11th Avenue in Evans, Colorado.
