Obituary

Maxine Ellen Grooms passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

She was born November 30, 1931, to Leona (Knox) and Carl Freemen of Alamosa, CO. Maxine married Wayne Edwin Grooms of Manzanola on December 21, 1951. Together, they traveled as he served in the Navy and welcomed three boys: Michael, Rickey and Gregory Grooms. They settled in Rocky Ford, CO. Maxine spent her life welcoming an abundance of family and friends into her home, playing cards, camping, and cooking (her savory fried chicken and mashed "taters" were delectable). As a descendent of the Freeman Bakery, she blessed those close to her with rich confectionaries. She is best known for doting on her family, her ornery smile, sweet tooth and uplifting laughter.

Maxine is preceded in death by her parents; Leona and Carl, sisters; Jeri and Paula, and sons; Rick and Greg.

She is survived by her son Mike (Cindy) Grooms of Chatsworth, CA, daughter-in-law Joan Grooms of Greeley, six grandchildren; Melissa (Dustin) Brening of Greeley, Cody (Gretchen) Grooms of Eaton, Mickey (Michael) Davis, Amanda (Eric) Hsu, Curt (Tairn) Grooms, all of Southern CA, Grant Grooms, six great grandchildren; Sean (Amanda) Davis, Alyson Davis, Owen and Ethan Hsu, Tate and Teagan Brening, Asher Grooms and two great, great grandchildren; Lilly and Graelin Davis.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Westlake Lodge and Moser Funeral and Cremation Service. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later time.
