Melvin Lester Hamilton, 79, of Greeley, passed away with his family by his side, Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at North Colorado Medical Center. Melvin was born September 20, 1932 to Robert Cecil and Edith Irene (Grahm) Hamilton in Davenport, Iowa. He was raised in the Eldridge and Princeton, Iowa areas. He joined the Army in 1955 and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and northern Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1957. He married Marlene L. Schroeder on April 14, 1956 in Davenport, Iowa. They farmed in Princeton and McCauslen, Iowa, until 1966 when they moved to Big Rock, Iowa where they also farmed. In 1980 they moved to Greeley, Colorado where they owned and operated Triple H Hay Farms with their son, Mark. Melvin attended the Kersey Community Church and also continued his membership with St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Wheatland, Iowa. Melvin's love was farming and enjoyed raising cattle, and his poultry and reading his farm magazines. He was known as a having a good work ethic . He had a big heart and enjoyed helping people. He is survived by his sons, Mark Hamilton, of Greeley and MelAllen (Kelli) Hamilton of Lowden, Iowa, his daughters, Marlo Hamilton, of Greeley, and Melinda (Don) Loloff of Kersey, his brother, Ronald (Joann), Hamilton, of Princeton, Iowa and 2 sisters, Joan Walker, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jean (Woodrow) Nolan of Mobile, Alabama, a sister-in-law, Dehila Schroeder of Tama, Iowa, grandchildren, Cole, Ryan (Mariah Thurston), Paige, and Seth Hamilton, and a great grandchild, Bella Hamilton and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Hamilton, his parents, Cecil and Edith Hamilton and a son, Monte Hamilton. A memorial service will be held Monday, October 24, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. at the Kersey Community Church, 26221 CR 53, Kersey, Colorado. Memorial gifts may be made to the Melvin Hamilton memorial fund or the Kersey Community Church.
