Michael (Mike) T. Heroy, 73, of Greeley, CO, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, due to complications from cancer.
Mike was born in Greenport, NY, on his parents' fifth wedding anniversary. He was raised in Hicksville, NY, and graduated from Hicksville High School in 1969. He went on to earn a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Evansville, IN, in 1972.
After graduation, Mike moved to Colorado, where he began his career in education as a teacher in Ft. Lupton. Years later, he met and married Debbie Apple. They were married for 30 years and shared a life devoted to family, community, and service.
Mike worked as both a teacher and a principal throughout his career and was especially passionate about working with children and adults with disabilities. Outside of education, he had a deep love for the outdoors, photography, and fishing. He was also an avid musician who found great joy in playing the guitar and banjo—particularly folk, country, and bluegrass music.
Mike is survived by his three children: Matt Heroy (Chen Z. Heroy), Melissa Heroy (Jake Weis), and Todd Heroy; and by his grandson, Riley Heroy. He is also survived by his twin sisters, Betsey Marschean of TX and Laurie Heroy of FL. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Debbie, his parents Frank and Lillian Heroy, and his in-laws, Patricia and Marvin Apple.
He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
