Millicent Mae Sandin, 91 of Greeley, passed away on March 9, 2017 at Fairacres Manor Nursing Home.
Millicent was born on April 26, 1925 to Pete and Myrtle Broberg at home near Newman Grove, NE. After graduating from high school, she worked in Denver before being called back home to help in the family owned store during the war effort. At that time, her long-time friendship with high school classmate Milton Sandin was renewed and they were married on June 18, 1946.
Millicent was a devoted wife and mother, willingly moving to Clarinda, IA; Denver, CO; and rural Greeley in order for her family to be in better situations for career or educational opportunities. With Dad’s career as an over-the-road truckdriver, Mom served as both mom and dad as she raised her family. As a homemaker, she was an accomplished seamstress and very concerned with healthy eating years before that became popular. She drove countless miles getting four children to and from school and church activities, Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls and 4-H. When her children were raised, she became a volunteer for the Senior Companion Program in Greeley. She remained up-to-date with current events and was a good conversationalist. She was a member of Christ Community (formerly First Evangelical Free) while raising her family but attended Mountain View EFC later in life until her health no longer permitted. She loves the Lord, and learned to replace the habit of worry during her earlier years with the disciplines of prayer and trust. We’re thankful for the excellent care that she received at BeeHive Homes, Garden Square at Westlake and most recently at Fairacres Manor. Her caregivers at Fairacres shared their lives with her in a way that allowed her to still be part of life outside of a nursing home.
Millicent is survived by her sons Brent and wife Vicki of Spokane, WA, Randy and wife Lou Anne of Greeley, Greg and wife Robbe of Loveland, a daughter Valerie and husband Richard Huwa of Greeley, grandchildren Jeremy (Krista) Sandin, David (Heather) Huwa, Derek (Jenna) Sandin, Jerod (Megan) Huwa, Jessica (Anthony) Martinez, Sarah Sandin, Josh Sandin, and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Lowell (Dorothy) of Puyallup, WA, and sister-in-law Mavis Broberg of Spokane, WA.
Millicent is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 63 years, Milton; and brother, Larry Broberg.
At Millicent's request, there will not be a memorial service. A private, family inurnment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Mountain View EFC, Playground Fund, 6253 W. 28th Street, Greeley, CO 80634.
