Myron "Butch" Robert Hastings, Jr., 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 22, 2023. He was born to Myron Robert, Sr. and Ellen (Eastwold) Hastings on February 27, 1939, in Olney, IL.
His father worked in the oilfield, so they moved around a lot, ending up in Kersey, CO in 1955. After graduating from Kersey High School (Platte Valley High School) in 1957 he went to work on an oilfield pipeline in UT.
Returning to Kersey in the fall, he worked at various jobs including farming and construction. On June 14, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart and light of his life Maureen Duffield. Two months later they moved to Brownwood, TX where he attended Howard Payne University as a ministerial student for two years.
In 1961, he became the Executive Director of Northern Colorado Youth for Christ, running the Saturday night rallies twice a month. In 1965 he began developing and running Campus Life Clubs on the area high school campuses.
He was a popular speaker at numerous Christian Women's Clubs in the Rocky Mountain Area, youth and family camps and retreats, special classes at the area high schools, and spoke four times at graduation exercises at Platte Valley High School.
After retiring from YFC in June 1986, he attended Colorado Christian University while working at Weld County Garage as a salesman for two years. He graduated with a BA in 1989. In 1988 he and Maureen moved to Canon City to work in the United Methodist Church for four years.
In 1992 he and Maureen started Hastings Homes, LLC, building 140 homes in the Greeley area. In 2007 home sales plummeted, so he became a licensed real estate agent at Group and 5 years later at Pro Realty. He retired on Dec. 27, 2021.
He was emcee at Christian Businessmen's Committee luncheons for several years, served as the first chaplain for the Greeley Police Department, was on the advisory board of the home economics department at school district 6 high schools, and served on the Re-2 Eaton school board for four years.
He was involved with the presentations of the Billy Graham films "Joni" and "The Restless Ones" and the film "Chariots of Fire."
It was his privilege to perform wedding ceremonies with pre- and post-marital counseling for about 50 couples and several funerals over the years. He traveled to Bogota, Columbia, SA to do ministry and twice to Belize on mission trips.
He was a tennis player, tournament racquetball champion, pickleball player, avid fly-fisherman, fly-tyer, great marksman, and weightlifter, and was willing to teach the disciplines to anyone.
He loved to see people come to know the Lord and was active in his local church as a preacher, Sunday school teacher and deacon board chairman. He was a member of Kersey Community Church. For a couple of years, he was interim preacher at Grover Community Church and Friendship Alliance church in Grover, CO.
Over the past few years, he developed a prayer list of about 300 people. If he knew you had a need he put you on his list and prayed for you every day. He was definitely a prayer warrior.
He is survived by his sons Robin (Rob) Hastings (Paulette), Terrell Hastings (Robin), and daughter Keli (Hastings) Podtburg (Jeff), eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren, two brothers Richard "Dick" (Margie) Hastings, Tomball, TX, and James "Buck" Hastings, Zachary, LA.
Preceded in death by his parents, baby sister Kelly Hastings, unborn baby grandchild, and sister-in-law Lois Hastings.
