Obituary

Norma Aracely Calderon Grijalva, 53, of Greeley passed away Sunday, September 8, 2024, with family by her side. She was born in Guatemala on January 13, 1971, to Gabina Arijala and Felipe Calderon Portillo.

Norma eventually relocated to the United States residing in Longmont where she met the love of her life, Jerry McClain. The two were married on May 16, 2011, and resided in Longmont for some time before finally settling in Greeley, Colorado.

She was a high school graduate and was also a devote catholic at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. She was briefly employed with the Residence Inn by Marriott Hotel as part of the breakfast crew.

She is survived by her daughter's Susan Lopez Calderon of Greeley, Johana Graciela Lopez Calderon of Guatemala, her sisters Marta Grijalva of California and Amalia Grijalva of Guatemala, and 7 grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gabina Arijala and Felipe Calderon Portillo, and her husband Jerry H. McClain

Visitation will be 4-7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2024, with a recitation of the rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m., both at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:00 a.m., Friday September 13, 2024, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Interment is at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.


Norma Aracely Calderón Grijalva, de 53 años, de Greeley, falleció el domingo 8 de septiembre de 2024 con su familia a su lado. Nació en Guatemala el 13 de enero de 1971, hija de Gabina Arijala y Felipe Calderón Portillo.

Norma finalmente se mudó a los Estados Unidos y residió en Longmont, donde conoció al amor de su vida, Jerry McClain. Los dos se casaron el 16 de mayo de 2011 y residieron en Longmont durante algún tiempo antes de establecerse finalmente en Greeley, Colorado.

Se graduó de la escuela secundaria y también era católica devota en la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de la Paz. Trabajó brevemente en el hotel Residence Inn by Marriott como parte del equipo de desayuno.

Le sobreviven sus hijas Susan López Calderón de Greeley, Johana Graciela López Calderón de Guatemala, sus hermanas Marta Grijalva de California y Amalia Grijalva de Guatemala, y 7 nietos.

Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Gabina Arijala y Felipe Calderón Portillo, y su esposo Jerry H. McClain.

El velorio será de 4 a 7:00 p. m., el jueves 12 de septiembre de 2024, con un rezo del rosario a partir de las 6:00 p. m., ambos en la Capilla del Servicio Funerario Moser. La Misa de Cristian Entierro será el viernes 13 de septiembre de 2024 a las 10:00 a. m. en la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de la Paz. El entierro se realizará en el Cementerio Nacional Fort Logan en Denver.
