Pastor Garry R. Rhoades, 62 of Eaton, died on Tuesday, February 05, 2008 at his home. He was born on October 4, 1945 in Topeka, Kansas to Raymond and Wilma (King) Rhoades. Garry married Sharon K. Groves on August 21, 1966 at the Eaton First Baptist Church. They lived in Anchorage, Alaska from 1982 until 2003 They returned to Eaton in 2004. Pastor Rhoades was a member of the Eaton First Baptist Church and was currently serving as the interim pastor for the Galeton Baptist Church. Garry graduated from Denver Baptist Bible College in 1978, served churches in Woodland Park, CO and Whitefish, MT prior to ministering for 20 years at Northland Baptist Church near Anchorage, AK. He also served as Chaplain for the AK CAP Wing Chaplain and Anchorage Police Department. He was Chaplain for the Ault VFW. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Rhoades of Eaton; his father, Raymond Rhoades of Joplin, Missouri; his son and daughter in law, Sgt. Timothy and Kimberly Rhoades of Anchorage, Alaska; 3 sisters, Sandra Nenstiel of Las Vegas, Nevada, Sharon Morrison of Yakima, Washington and Debbie Thomas of Topeka, Kansas and 2 brothers, Dale Rhoades of Coquille, Oregon and David Rhoades of Brighton, Colorado. He is preceded in death by his mother, Wilma Rhoades. A funeral service to celebrate Garry's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 8, 2008 at the Evangelical Free Church of Eaton, 1325 3rd Street. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until time of service at the church. Interment will follow in the Eaton Cemetery.
