Obituary

Peter James Brennan, age 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 29, at Northern Colorado Hospital Hospice Care in Greeley, Colorado. Peter was born in New York City to John Brennan and Sarah (Sommers) Brennan of County Cork, Ireland.
Peter married Cecilia Teresa Finn on January 25, 1946 and they lived in New York, Texas and New Mexico before settling in Colorado in 1959. Peter's beloved wife, Cecilia of 63 years died April 1, 2008. Together they had four children: Jacqueline A. Brennan of Lyons, Colorado, Peter J. Brennan, Jr. of Cheyenne, Wyoming and his wife Mary; Patti Bowles of Greeley, Colorado and her husband Bob; and Maureen Huskey and her husband Brian of Los Angeles, California. Peter Sr. also leaves behind six beautiful grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Peter James, Sr. was a devoted husband and father. He worked very hard his entire life and was a department manager with K-Mart for over 30 years when he retired in his 70s when he then became a Greeter with Wal-Mart where he became well known and loved by many of the customers. Peter took tremendous pride in his work winning many awards and recognition throughout his career. Pete and Ceil were well known in Grand Junction and even years after his retirement a trip to K-Mart and Wal-Mart would solicit dozens of "Hey Pete" from customers and employees making a simple shopping trip a walk down memory lane and a pleasant reminder of his many contributions and dedication to work.
Peter was also a veteran who proudly served as a navy seaman during World War II. His survivors include Peter's four sisters: Sally Smith, Betty Flynn, Kay Quilty of New York, and Josephine Neil of California.
Peter was born with a natural gift and love for music and the ability to entertain family and friends playing the piano, the accordion, and the mandolin and singing with his wife. He was also a marvelous cook and the kitchen was often referred to as his "sandbox". During the last eighteen months of his life Peter lived with his daughter Patti Bowles and her family where he developed a love of reading many books and enjoying watching boxing with his grandson Tim, along with good movies with the family. He spent many weekends visiting his other children and enjoying time with his grandkids and great grandchildren. Peter was loved very much by his family and he will be greatly missed.
