Reginald (Rex) Wayne McVay, 80 of LaSalle was born on December 10, 1929 to Wayne and Thelma (Eisenoch) McVay in Rugby, North Dakota. He passed from this world to Heaven on August 15, 2010 at his home. He grew up in tough times and despite all that had many wonderful adventures growing up. When he was 17 years old he enlisted in the United States Army. The Army became his career and serving his country was his second greatest love. While stationed in Landshut, Germany in 1950 he met and married on July 6, the greatest love of his life and his wife of 60 years, Anna Marie Ruth (Obermeier) McVay. He preceeds her in death.
They had 3 loving daughters, Barbara Anne Folkers (Todd), Linda McVay (Barry) and Penny Headrick (Kris). They were a nomadic family, traveling the country and world wherever the Army saw fit to send them. He spent many years away from his growing family while serving in the Korean War and then later in Vietnam. His family always patiently and lovingly awaited his return. He was honorably discharged from the Army on December 31, 1970, just in time for the birth of his first grandchild.
He leaves behind 4 grandchildren who will always remember their Papa and the many valuable lessons he taught them, Heidi Abell (Brad), TJ Folkers (Heidi), Travis Anderson (Alyssa) and Cody Headrick. His greatgrandchildren will know him through our hearts and many stories, Aaron Folkers, Aden Folkers and Emry Anderson.
He leaves behind many loved ones and friends including a dearly loved and cherished cousin, Wayne Merry and lifelong friends Bob and Sumiko Miller. He loved his family, his God and country as well as all God's creatures. He had a great skill in woodworking and has built many beautiful pieces over the years. We should all aspire to live such a full and adventurous life.
The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Dennis Lower of the Greeley VA and all the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice. The loving and compassionate care you all have provided for our "Papa" has meant the world to us. Per Papa's wishes there are no services scheduled. Cremation has been completed.
