On September 5, 1964, Richard married Laurene Carnes in Unionville, Missouri. During their time together, Richard worked as a supervisor at John Deere in Ottuma, Iowa and a shoe salesman in Saginaw, Michigan. He then moved his family to Colorado in 1971 where he worked for the Greyhound Bus Line, Coca Cola, Monfort Packing Plant, and managed his own gas station. Richard completed his career at the University of Northern Colorado where he retired as a Chemistry Department laboratory technician. Richard and Laurene had two children, Jeff Boyer and Connie (Boyer) Burke, both of LaSalle, Colorado. On January 4th, 1998, Laurene lost her battle to cancer.

On May 17, 1999, Richard married Patricia May in Las Vegas, Nevada, adding Chad and Brad Bunting (Patti’s sons) and families to this new family. Richard and Patti took several trips and enjoyed gambling, demolition derbies, Bronco football and NASCAR.

Richard worked many weekends building his own cabin in the Crystal Lake area that provided many hours of relaxation and fun times for his family and friends. He was a man who could fix anything.

Richard is survived by his wife, Patti, son Jeff, daughter Connie, and four grandchildren. As per his request, no memorial services will be held; only a private family interment.

Richard enjoyed raising a glass or two with friends and sharing his life stories. So the next time you find yourself sitting on a stool with a cold one in your hand, share a memory of Richard and give him a toast.
