Richard Glen Rodgers, age 57 of Pierce, Colorado Richard Glen Rodgers died on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at the North Colorado Medical Center as a result of injuries incurred in an occupational accident. Richard was born July 17, 1950 in Hutchinson, Kansas where he was raised and also attended High School. At the age of 17 Richard enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Vietnam. He was awarded numerous honors including 2 Purple Hearts for injuries received in combat. On Feb. 14, 1976 he was united in marriage to Hope Buethe in Goodland, Kansas. Hope and Richard have 3 daughters. The Rodgers family resided in several towns in Kansas, including Salina, Hutchinson, Glasco, Goodland, and Garden City where Richard was primarily employed as a welder until moving to Greeley, Colorado in 1991 when he was employed by Monfort/JBS-Swift. Richard and Hope moved to the Wildflower Ranch Subdivision in Pierce in 2003. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping and raising backyard farm animals. One thing he enjoyed everywhere he lived was fishing. He also loved being "Grandpa Richard" to grandsons Bradley and Brendon and "Grampy" to granddaughter Kerha. Survivors include his wife Hope of the home, parents Glen and Joan Rodgers of Hutchinson, daughters Nellie Hill and husband Jeff of Beloit, Ks., Samantha Rodgers and fiancé Tucker of Greeley, Elizabeth Smith and husband Robert of University Place, Washington, brothers Mike Rodgers and wife Jackie of Los Angeles, California, Bob Rodgers of San Diego, California; and a sister Kathy Palmer and husband Brad of Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by one grandson Jerry Scott, and his grandparents. A memorial service to celebrate Richard's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel.
