Richard “Rich” Schmidt, 88, of Kersey, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Fairacres Manor in Greeley.
He was born November 9, 1928 at Godfrey Bottom in LaSalle, Colorado to Robert V. & Mary (Renke) Schmidt. He attended school in LaSalle through the 8th grade. He farmed all his life with his parents, first south of LaSalle and then they bought the farm south east of Kersey. They sold the farm in 1979 and bought the house in Kersey. He took care of his parents until they died in 1995. He bowled with the same team for 35 years. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, planted his garden and working in his yard. He was a past member of the Greeley-Evans Moose Lodge and the Colorado Horseshoe Pitching Association. He belonged to the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. On January 25, 1996, he married Madeline “Maddie” (Engstrom) Crabtree.

Survivors include his wife, Madeline Schmidt, his sister Mary Ann (Jim) Conlon, brother LeRoy “Duke” (Vicki) Schmidt, several nieces and nephews, 2 stepdaughters, 2 stepsons, 10 step grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren, and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Mary Schmidt, an infant brother, Russel and his brother Robert (Bud) Schmidt.
