Robert (Bob) Ley, 89, of Greeley, CO passed away with his family surrounding him on Saturday, October 24, 2015. He was born on August 29, 1926 in Ashley, ND to Gottlieb and Rose (Christiansen) Ley.

Bob attended Valley View School in Kersey, CO speaking only German.

He met the love of his life, Betty Buderus, when he was 20 years old. They later married on June 20, 1948. In 1954, he started working with Mr. Bucholz leveling land. Four years later, he started his own leveling business, also building lakes and reservoirs. Bob had a successful business, and he worked hard for forty years, retiring in 1988.

Some of his hobbies were raising Angus cattle, irrigation, gardening, and fixing anything. He loved to play the violin, especially with the Emmitt Horst’s polka band. Bob and Betty loved to square dance, polka, and Dutch Hop together. He was also a member of the Greeley-Evans Moose Lodge 909 for 61 years holding the office of Junior Governor.

Bob and Betty celebrated their 67th anniversary this year.

Bob is survived by wife Betty, sister Naomi Morgan, nieces and nephews Margie (Tony) Dowdy, Marilyn (Don) Beckel, Martin (Chris) Ley, Herb (Karen) Ley, Charlene, Linda Warehime, Elmer Ley Jr., Randy (Cindy) Reeve, Sandy (Rick) Rexford, Sue (Bob) Kitchell, Cheryl (Russell) Martin, Rick Williams; sister-in-law Virginia Williams, great nieces Kristyn (Craig) Dechant, and Tanya (Ryan) Filsinger, Rhonda Whistance, David (Shelley) Schooling, Troy (April) Dowdy and great-great nieces Jaedyn, McKenna, Brielyn, and Paisley. Special friend and neighbor Arlene Clinkinbard and Stacy. Many other great nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers, Matt, Harold, Herb, Elmer, Marvin Ley, niece Barb Reeve, and grand-niece Sharon Dowdy.

A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel. A funeral service for Bob will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015 at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel, 3501 S. 11th Avenue in Evans. Interment will immediately follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley.
