Roger D. Messick, 73, went home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2022. He was born December 21, 1948, in Fort Worth, Texas to Riley & Myrtle (Embrey) Messick.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jo Ann Johnson Messick, daughters Amber Newman and Kiersten Ann Messick, sons Avery Plank, Nolan Ray, Daniel Lee Ray, Austen Messick, Aaron Messick, and Cody Frank Paul Messick, grandchildren Skyler Ray, Christiaan Ray, and Marlo Jean Messick, great grandchild, Levi Ray Messick, one sister Jean Yvonne Messick Rainbolt, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, coworkers, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Embrey Messick, and his father Riley Alvertice Messick.

He proudly served in the army and did one tour in Vietnam. He was the Senior Pastor of Harvest Time Church.

When someone takes their last breath and an obituary is read, you often wonder if what you are reading is the way the person was in real life or just what those left behind would like you to believe. Not so with Roger. He was a man who loved the Lord first and foremost and served Him with all that was in him. He was a man of integrity and honesty. He went through many trials as a Pastor and a friend, but always prayed that the truth would be revealed. He was committed and reliable. If he gave you his word, it was solid. You could depend on it. If he was your friend, you could depend on that, too. He was a loyal friend. He was funny and had his own unique personality. He could break out a song to fit every situation, and if he couldn't think of one, he would make one up. His smile and laugh were contagious. He wasn't perfect, but he was perfect to those who loved him. He was slow to anger, yet quick to apologize. He stepped up to raise and eventually adopt two children who were not biologically his. He never treated them any other way but like his own. If you were fortunate enough to know him, you knew the "cream of the crop". He was loved by many, but he also loved many. When he left this earth, he left holes in hearts that will never be filled by anyone else. He was unique. If you asked how he was, his response was, "I'm blessed". He also added often, "and highly favored by God". He was highly favored. God was pleased and even told him so a few weeks before he met Him. As a Vietnam Veteran, he never heard, "welcome home". I'm sure the "welcome home" he received from the Lord far surpassed any welcome home on this earth. We will always love you and you will always be in our hearts and thoughts. We will see you later when you greet us in Heaven. We were blessed to have you in our lives as a husband, a father, a grandfather, a great grandfather, a friend, and a Pastor. Rest in Heaven until we see you again soon.
