Ronald J. Veik of Nunn, died on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at his home.
Ronald Joseph Veik was born on August 13, 1938 in Humphrey, Nebraska to William P. and Evelyn A. (Wemhoff) Veik of Petersburg, Nebraska. He lived in Nebraska until 1956, when he moved to Colorado. After moving to Colorado, he married Ethel D. Kramer in 1961. He then joined the United States Army in October of 1961 and served until September of 1963. He then worked for many Denver area businesses, including two of his own, Ron's Excavating and Athmar Skelly in the late 1960's and early 1970's. He then moved to Platteville, Colorado in 1975 where he farmed, worked in the oil fields, and raised his seven children. He married Bonnie Murray-Harvey in 1989. They continued to live in Platteville until they moved to Nunn, Colorado in 1999. Ron worked for Willie's Diesel and The Town of Nunn until his death. Ron passed away at his home in Nunn, Colorado surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Veik of Nunn, CO; his children, Dan and Audra Veik of Crook, CO; Deb and Daniel Furman of Hastings, NE; Deanna and Keith Shaffer of Greeley, CO; Duane Veik of Platteville, CO; Dean and Lynnette Veik of Greeley, CO; Doug Veik of Denver, CO; Donald and Jessica Veik of Firestone, CO; Tawnya and David Spies of Greeley, CO; and Kevin and Stephanie Harvey of Craig, CO; his grandchildren, Lacey, Justin, Kylee, Mickie Jo, Alycia, Sarah, Joshua, Joleen, Jacob, Kaycee, Lynndee, Michelle, Nicole, Mark, David, Claudia, Tanner, Elisa, and Tylor; his great grandchildren, Chloe and Emma; his brothers and sisters, Donna Paproski of Denver, CO; Marie Smith of Petersburg, NE; Janet Buerer of Hasting, NE; Linus and Jimmie Veik of Northglenn, CO; Terry and Coco Veik of El Paso, TX; Keith and Sandy Veik of Clay Center, NE; and Steve and Sue Veik of Henderson, CO.
Mr. Veik is preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel D. Veik; his parents, William and Evelyn Veik, 3 brothers, Gerald Veik, Bill Veik, and Alvin Veik.
A Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at the St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church at 915 12th Street, Greeley, CO followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. Cremation will follow and his urn will be buried with Military Honors at a later date at The Nunn Cemetery.
