Royce Edward Bakel, 77, of Greeley, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at UC Health Greeley Hospital.

He was born June 28, 1947, to Harold and Freda (Webber) Bakel in Denver, CO. Royce was a proud 1965 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Johnstown, CO. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served honorably in Vietnam. Following his military service, he worked at Kodak for four years.

With support from the GI Bill, he earned an associate's degree from Aims Community College, which led him to a successful career in HVAC work through the Sheet Metal Workers Union. Later, he transitioned to work at Crawford Insurance, and in his retirement years, he enjoyed staying active by working at Ehrlich Toyota.

In 1969, he married Diana Harding at Greeley First Baptist Church. Together, they raised two sons, Brian and Ty, and built a life centered around family, hard work, and love. Royce was an avid bowler for over 55 years. He deeply enjoyed the camaraderie of the sport and the friendships it brought. He had a quick wit, a great sense of humor, and was known for his endless supply of jokes and stories that could bring a smile to anyone's face. He also had a deep love for fishing, especially alongside his father, his brother Richard, and his two sons.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Diana Bakel, his loving sons, Brian and Ty Bakel, their wives, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Freda Bakel, and his brother, Richard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Colorado Chapter, 455 Sherman St #500, Denver, CO 80203, in Royce's name.
