Specialist Four Ruben Michael (Mike) Martinez, 63, of Greeley passed away May 24, 2015 at his home.
He was born May 30, 1951 in Greeley, Colorado to Ruben Benito & Juanita (Andrade) Martinez. Mike grew up in Greeley and Vista, California with his parents and four brothers. In 1968, at the age of 17, he enlisted into the United States Army. He served in Vietnam where he received several medals including a Purple Heart and an Army Commendation Medal with “V” Device for Valor. He was Honorably Discharged in 1970.
Mike was a Jack of all Trades until the late 90’s when he began a job at the Island Grove Detox Center. He became a Certified Addictions Counselor and celebrated over 20 years of his own sobriety.
He enjoyed many activities, but his passion was music. He would spend hours playing his guitar for family, friends or just for himself.
Mike is survived by his loving family; his 2 brothers, Tony and Richard Martinez, his children; Ruby, Christopher, Laura, and Jessica Martinez, Amelia Goering and Ruben Martinez, Jr.; 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Juanita Martinez, and 2 brothers; Albert and Robert Martinez.
Visitation will be 4-7:00 pm Wednesday, June 3, 2015 followed by Recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel, 3501 S. 11th Avenue, Evans, Colorado 80620. Graveside services will be 11:15 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area “C”, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave, Denver, Colorado 80236.
