Russell Lyman Mertz
Russell Lyman Mertz, 61, of Greeley, passed away Sept. 22, 2017 at his home.
Russell was born on Oct. 5, 1955, in Thornton, CO to Lyman and Betty Jo (Kendall) Mertz. He grew up in Adams County where he attended school. He was married to Valerie Snyder in 1974 at Henderson, CO. They made their home there before moving to Green Bay, California and back to the Greeley area. They were later divorced. Russell worked in oil rigs, egg plants and construction for many years.
He later married Julie Boyer in Dec. 2005 and they made their home in Greeley. He was currently the supervisor of maintenance at the Birchwood Manor at the time of his death.
Russell loved crossword puzzles, camping, fishing, and anything outdoors. He was an avid woodworker and a huge Colorado sports fan.
He is survived by this wife, Julie Boyer-Mertz of Greeley; daughters, Nadeena Randall of Milliken, Rebecca Mertz of Firestone, Jannice Mertz of Evans; granddaughters, Sage Randall, Kayla Carter, Payton Shelley, Jaidyn Mertz, Berkleigh Mertz; great-granddaughters, Penelope and Addalynn; sisters, Margaret (John) Keeler of Florida, Helen (Kent) Bohac of Alaska/Washington; brother, Jack (Pat) Mertz of Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Russell will be greatly missed by all.
Cremation was held and no services are planned at this time.
