Sherry Ann Melby, 56, of Evans passed away Wednesday, Dec 4, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born Feb. 24, 1957. Sherry met the love of her life, Douglas Melby, when she was 17 and they were married April 1, 1976. Loving mother of Nikki and Chris Hader and Michelle Shaffer, all of Evans. She was a caring and devoted Grandmother to Dillon and Ashlee Hader and Brandon Shaffer, and she rarely missed one of their sporting events. Sherry worked in banking/accounting for most of her life and was dedicated to the City of Evans. She was a member of zoning and planning boards for the city for over 7 years, a City Council member for 4 years and was appointed Mayor in 1999. While serving her city for over 7 years as the Mayor, Sherry made many positive impacts on her community. She was also a member of the Evans Fire Department Women's Auxiliary and the Evans VFW Women's Auxiliary for several years. Sherry and Doug enjoyed traveling to Black Hawk frequently and dining out at various restaurants. They were married for 37 years and had a love that everyone admired. Sherry lost her soul mate, Doug, in July of this year and missed him terribly. Survivors: Daughter Nikki Hader, son in law Chris Hader, and daughter Michelle Shaffer. Grandchildren Dillon and Ashlee Hader and Brandon Shaffer. Brother Michael Norland and wife Betty. Sister Gayle St. John and husband Art. Sister Bonnie Jones and husband Raymond. Several aunts, uncles, and nieces and one nephew. Preceded in death by her loving husband Doug and her mother Violet Norland.
