Shirley Ann Pitts, 70, of Evans, died on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at the North Colorado Medical Center. She was born on January 13, 1937 in Montrose, Colorado to Charles E. and Emma Mae (Thatcher) Carey. Shirley married Earl Pitts on November 17, 1956 in Grand Junction, Colorado. They had lived in Gill, Colorado for 16 years prior to moving to Evans in 2000. She worked as a cook for the Sigma Kappa Sorority house at the University of Northern Colorado until her retirement in 1994. Mrs. Pitts was a member of the Galeton Community Church. She loved to cook, fishing and baking cookies and fudge for her family who she loved very much. Survivors include her husband, Earl Pitts of Evans; her daughter, Sherlyn Kay (Pitts) Hill and her husband Michael of Windsor, 2 sons, Walter Charles Pitts and his fiancé' Aubrey Blevins of Greeley and Douglas Earl Pitts and his wife Wendy of Greeley; 10 grandchildren, Lisa Hill Falls, Aaron Hill, Jessica Pitts, Jason Pitts, Amberly Pitts, Ethan Pitts, Tyler Pitts, Austen Blevins, Madysen Blevins and Kylee Blevins; 2 great granddaughters, Hailee and Hanna Falls; 3 sisters, Hazel Brown, Beatrice Brown and Betty Ulrich all of Greeley; a brother, James Carey of Prescott, Arizona and a half brother, Dean Longstreet of Oregon. She is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Daryl Lynn Pitts on October 22, 1995 and 2 sisters, Ludie Rattliff and Bessie Carey. A funeral service to celebrate Shirley's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 18, 2007 at the Galeton Community Church in Galeton. Interment will follow in the Lakeview Cemetery in Windsor.
