Shurl Duane Decker, 92, of Greeley, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, with family at his side at UCHealth Greeley Hospital.
He was born on September 3, 1933, in Dalhart, Texas, and moved with his parents to a farm near Atwood, Kansas when he was three. He graduated from Atwood High School. On August 7, 1956, he married Shirley Ann Call of nearby Colby, Kansas. He and Shirley moved to Colorado soon after their marriage. On January 21, 1960, Shirley gave birth to their only child, Steve, in Fort Collins. The family moved to Greeley in 1962.
Shurl, known to most as Duane, worked in a variety of industries throughout his career. He taught Steve how to work on the family's cars and how to fix just about anything around the house. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with Shirley, using their travel trailer, to many destinations. They especially enjoyed taking the trailer to their favorite campground in Estes Park, bringing their grandkids, Matthew and Amanda, along. Duane and Shirley loved to make homemade ice cream using a freezer you had to crank by hand. It's a tradition started by Duane's parents and still enjoyed by his grandchildren.
Duane is survived by his son, Steve Decker; grandchildren, Matthew (Brittany) Decker and Amanda (Daulton) Schmitt; and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Mary (Henningsen) Decker, and his wife, Shirley Decker.
A Celebration of Life will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel in Evans, Colorado.
