Susan Carol Nickell, 59, of Eaton, Colorado, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado. Susan was born July 23, 1954 to Eldon C.L. and Carol M. (Peterson) Vahle in Quincy, Illinois. She graduated from Liberty High School in 1972 and went on to attend Eastern Illinois University where she graduated in 1976. Susan married Robin "Rob" Lee Nickell on September 4, 1976 in Liberty, Illinois. Most of her early life was spent in Liberty. She and Rob moved to Greeley where they lived from 1979-1997 when she was transferred to Gilbert, Arizona for work. They lived there for four years before moving to Eaton, Colorado, where she had lived since 2002. Susan worked as a customer service representative at State Farm for 35 years. Susan loved motorcycles and was a member of the Harley Owners Group (HOG). In her younger years, she enjoyed sewing, even making some of her own clothing, and enjoyed going antiquing. She is survived by her husband, Rob Nickell of Eaton; her brother, Larry and wife Jane Vahle of Seneca, Illinois; her step-sister, Brenda and her husband Dave Obert of Palmyra, Missouri; her brothers-in-law, Greg and his wife Karrie Nickell, and Jeff and his wife Jackie Nickell; her mother-in-law, Carolyn Nickell, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eldon and Carol Vahle, her step-mother, Helen Vahle and her father-in-law, Jim Nickell. A celebration of Susan's life will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel, 3501 S. 11th Avenue in Evans. Other services will be held in Liberty, Illinois with burial following in Burton Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado in care of Moser Funeral Service.
