Tomas "Tom" Cortez Jr., 59, of Evans, died on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at his home. He was born on March 10, 1948 in Olmito, Texas to Tomas and Irene (Valdez) Cortez. Tom married Elvia Garza in Grover City, California on November of 1968. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Vietnam Conflict. He also worked for the City of Greeley for 24 years. Survivors include his wife, Elvia Cortez of Evans; 2 daughters, Elvia Aime´ Stump and her husband Mark of Colorado and M. Yvonne Cortez of Franklin, Tennessee; 6 sisters, Terri Wood, Norma Peralez, Velma Azua, Odelia Arrellano and Nelda Cardenas all of Texas and Irma Sanchez of Alabama and a brother, Roel Cortez of Utah. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tomas and Irene Cortez and a brother, Eloy Cortez. A memorial celebration will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2008 at the City of Evans Community Complex, 1100 37th Street in Evans.
