Verla M. Oliver, age 79, of Greeley, died July 30, 2008.
Verla was born on March 27, 1929 to Ludwig and Hazel (Mohrbacker) Bauder in Windsor, Colorado.
She graduated from Greeley High School, where she was an honor student, in 1949. Verla had also been a candidate for a scholarship in short hand. She married Warren K. Oliver on July 12, 1953 in Franklin, Indiana. Verla's first job was delivering telegrams on her bicyle for Western Union. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Myer's Brothers Hatchery, but for the majority of her working years she was a telephone operator for Mountain Bell.
Verla had lots of friends, and was quite the caregiver for the young and old. Whether babysitting children or frying chicken for the annual 4th. of July get togethers, her door was always open. Verla loved to sew and would fix a hem or replace a zipper for anyone. She loved flowers and gardening. She was a great bowler in different leagues in Greeley.
Verla is survived by her daughters Debbie (Randy) Caddy of Greeley; Lori Elvington of Longmont; her brothers, Glenn (Helen) Bauder of Joplin, Wesley (Marcie) Bauder of Greeley, Eddie (Jo Anne) Hartl, of Golden,Co. Sisters Vesper (Tommy) Cook of Huxley, Iowa; Darlene "Nellie" (Dick) Jones of Greeley. Her grandchildren, Jake and Kate Caddy, Scott Elvington, and Dawn Riechert. Verla was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Warren, and a brother Melvin Bauder.
A celebration of her life, sharing memories, and fellowship will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Moose Lodge in Evans. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Verla Oliver Memorial Fund in care of Moser Funeral Service.
