Obituary

Vern Donald Wilson, 93, of Greeley, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Kenton Manor in Greeley. He was born in Ryder, North Dakota on April 16, 1919 to Charles and Ruth Wilson. When Vern was 13 years old he moved with his parents and two brothers to northern Minnesota where he helped with the family farm. In 1942 he was inducted into the Army and served as a medic during WWII. Before going overseas, he married his Minnesota sweetheart, Verna Johnson. Upon returning to the States after the war he and Verna remained in California where a son and a daughter were born. In 1951 the family moved to central Iowa where Vern was employed for the next 36 years at John Deere Des Moines Works. In 1989 Vern and Verna moved to Greeley. He will be remembered and greatly missed by his son, Gary Wilson and his wife Susan of Virginia and his daughter, Gayle Baxter and her husband Frank of Colorado; grandchildren, Eric & Kristy Wilson and Daniel, Gwen, David, Karen, Philip and Paul Baxter; 15 great grandchildren and very much loved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Verna, brothers, Boyd and Don and son in law, Don. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley. Military Honors will be presented by the United States Army.
