Obituary

Verna P. McDonald, 82, of Greeley, died on Sunday, December 11, 2005 at the Hospice & Palliative Care of Northern Colorado Inpatient Unit. She was born on November 15, 1923 in San Antonio, Texas to Gustav A. and Verna (Greenleaf) Pagenstecher. She lived in San Antonio until 1957. She graduated from the Alamo Heights H.S. in 1940. In 1944 she earned her bachelor's degree from Randolph-Macon College in Virginia. She later earned her Master's degree in German from the University of Colorado in 1965. She earned her Ph.d. from the University of Northern Colorado in 1972. Verna married Duane C. McDonald in 1944 in San Antonio, Texas. They divorced in 1984. She taught French and German at Windsor and Greeley Central high schools from 1958 until 1970. She later worked at the University of Northern Colorado from 1970 until 1972. She worked for Kodak of Colorado from 1972 intil her retirement in 1984. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Greeley, P.T.O., the Junior League and helped organize the United Way program while at Kodak. She lived in Windsor, CO from 1957 until 1990 until moving to California and living there from 1990 until 1994. She lived in Longmont, CO from 1994 until 1998. She then moved to Killeen, TX from 1998 until 2000. She is survived by a son and his wife, Kent and Patricia McDonald of Longmont, Colorado; a daughter and her husband, Lynne and Robert Mosbaugh of Frisco, Colorado; 3 grandchildren, Shea Burchill, Erin Dawe and Quinn Finn and her ex-husband, Duane C. McDonald of Windsor. She is preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Verna Pagenstecher. A memorial service to celebrate Verna's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2005 at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 3800 W. 20th Street in Greeley. Cremation. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice & Palliative Care of Northern Colorado in care of Moser Funeral Service, 3501 S. 11th Avenue, Evans, Colorado 80620.
