Verna M. Wilson, 83, of Greeley, died on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at the Life Care Center in Greeley. She was born on July 4, 1923 in Holt, Minnesota to Gustav and Alma Johnson. Verna grew up in the Holt, MN area and at age 19, she and a friend traveled to California to marry their sweethearts who were drafted in to the Army during WWII. Shortly after arriving in California she married her sweetheart, Vern D. Wilson on August 9, 1942. They lived in the Los Angeles area until after their 2 children were born and then moved to Elkhart, Iowa to raise their family. The couple moved to Greeley, Colorado from Elkhart in 1989 and they have lived at the Life Care Center in Greeley for the last 7 years. Survivors include her husband, Vern D. Wilson of Greeley; a daughter and her husband, Gayle and Frank Baxter of Greeley, a son and his wife, Gary and Susan Wilson of Warrenton, Virginia; 8 grandchildren, Eric Wilson and Kristy Wilson of Warrenton, Virginia, Dan Baxter and his wife Kristina of Ankeny, Iowa, Gwen Lyson and her husband Bill of Aurora, Colorado, David Baxter and his wife Aimee of Ketchikan, Alaska, Karen Patrick and her husband George of Louisville, Colorado, Philip Baxter hand his wife Dawn of Greeley and Paul Baxter of Greeley; 8 great grandchildren, Keturah Baxter, Jalon Baxter, Caleb Lyson, Wendy Lyson, Joshua Lyson, Silas Baxter, Amelie Baxter and Larissa Baxter. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Vincent Johnson and 2 sisters, Helena Moe and Eunice Gusa. A funeral service to celebrate Verna's life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2007 at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel, 3501 S. 11th Avenue in Evans. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Monday from 1:30 until time of service at the funeral home.
