Obituary

Vidal Juan Flores passed away on July 2, 2015, at NCMC Hospice Unit in Greeley, CO, after a brief battle with lung cancer. Vidal was born on February 9, 1938, in Villanueva, NM, to Antonio and Cleo (Urioste) Flores. The family relocated to Pueblo, CO when he was eight years old. He was educated in Pueblo and began working at an early age as a newspaper boy and in a bowling alley. As an adult he worked at the American Stores Lincoln Packing Division and Rock Wool Insulation Plant.

In 1960 he was married to Carla Aragon in Pueblo and had two children. They were later divorced. In 1965 the family relocated to Greeley, CO. He was employed at Monfort of Colorado and later became a Union Head Stewart for the Fab. Department. Later he was employed by JC Penny. He ended his career at Sunrise Clinic as the Project Facility Manager starting in August 1985. He retired from Sunrise in 2003, then worked again at Sunrise starting in 2006 until final retirement in 2010.

Vidal was a sports enthusiast with a passion for baseball. He played semi-pro baseball for the Rock Wool Indians in Pueblo as well fast pitch. In Greeley, he played fast pitch then slow pitch for Monfort of Colorado. Later he was a Player Agent for Little League Baseball and also devoted time to Boy Scouts of America. Vidal also enjoyed fishing and camping at Red Feather Lakes, CO and the Conejos River in Southern Colorado. He also volunteered his time to Habitat for Humanity.

He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his son Vidal James Flores (Patty) of Greeley, and his daughter Janice Flores (Tami Schneck) of Fort Collins, CO; three grandchildren, VJ, Kayelee and Trey Flores; and a great granddaughter, Lilly Marie, all of Greeley. Vidal’s lifetime friend was Paul Ayalla of Pueblo. His closest friends were Tom Dean, PA-C, MPH and Rick Jaramillo of Greeley. His sisters Josie Baca and Lucy Chagolla of Pueblo; Eugenia Rodriguez (John) of Colby, Kansas, Susie Sanchez (Eddie), Rose Tellez and one brother, Anthony Flores (Vivian) of Greeley. He was preceded in death by his parents Antonio and Cleo Flores, a brother Joseph Flores, and two sisters Virginia Paz and Maria Armanda Flores.

Services will be held on Thursday July 9, 2015, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 2222 23rd Avenue in Greeley, beginning with a Rosary at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:30 a.m. Reception will follow at the Rodarte Community Center, 920 A Street in Greeley. Memorials can be made to the Vidal J. Flores Memorial fund in care of Moser Funeral Service, 3501 S. 11th Avenue, Evans, Colorado 80620.
