Obituary

"When you look out of your eyes, at nature happening out there, you're looking at you. That's the real you. The you that goes on of itself." Allan Watts

Wendy Louise Sydow, 68, of Loveland Colorado, passed away on August 24th, 2024.
Wendy was born on April 26th, 1956 to parents Theresa Mary "Tess" (Bishop) and Gunnar Eugene Sydow in Dell Rapids, South Dakota.
After graduating from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor of Science degree in Botany in 1979 Wendy began her career as a technical writer working for the environmental consulting firm Booz Allen, dedicated to environmental sustainability. In the early 1980's Wendy moved back east and lived in Silver Spring, Maryland and continued working with Booz Allen. During this time, she obtained a MS degree in Environmental Science from George Washington University and went on to work for a variety of Environmental Consulting firms as a technical scientific writer and project manager. Toward the later part of her career she moved back to Colorado to be close to her family and the Colorado Rockies.
While Wendy was a dedicated technical scientific writer on behalf of the environment, at an early age she wasn't shy about exploring words from a more poetic and philosophical perspective. She was always game for an evocative quote and also came up with a few of her own. In high school she titled one of her collections of musings, "Search for the answer to an unknown question". Wendy's writings reflected a beautiful connection with the natural world as well as rich contemplations on the meaning of life. She delighted in taking in the fresh Colorado mountain air and volunteered for the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program spending hours observing and tracking birds of prey. As a teenager Wendy once arrived home from school with a stray dog in tow much to the chagrin of her parents. While it did not work out to keep this dog, Wendy went on to adopt many wonderful dogs and cats throughout her life that she was dedicated to. She often adopted the somewhat less adoptable providing homes for these 4-legged beings in need.
Wendy was preceded in death by mother Theresa "Tess" Sydow and father Gunnar Sydow. She is survived by her sister, Lisa Sydow and partner Beck Sydow of Boulder, CO; niece Maya Poulter of Arvada, CO; Cousins Sharon "sista" Bagalio and husband Buddy Moore of Topsham, ME, Greg Bagalio and Life Partner Nancy Galin of Monroe, VA; Chris Bagalio of Enfield, NH; Mike Peloquin of Odenton, MD; Erik Sydow of Canoga Park, CA and many more wonderful cousins; second cousins Isaac Olson and life partner Shane Stinn of Longmont, CO and Benjamin Olson of South Portland, ME; Aunts Elinor and husband Jack Bagalio of Barre, VT; Delores Peloquin and husband Roger of Springfield, VT; and beloved dogs Laramie and Shilo and cat Otter.
Wendy's contributions to environmental sustainability and her passion for nature and all animals will be remembered fondly. Most importantly her quick wit at the most unexpected times and genuine and real presence she offered to those closet to her will be sorely missed. Dear Wendy, One final quote to tuck into your pocket, "We're all just walking each other home." Ram Dass. May your journey home be filled with ease.
