Wes Abels, 74, long-time Platteville resident, died Sat., Feb. 15, 2014 at his home. Cremation was chosen and a family service will be held at a later date. Wesley George Abels was born on Sept. 9, 1939, in Sibley, Iowa to Harm and Vera (Goldhorn) Abels. He received his education in Iowa before moving to Minnesota. He later moved to South Dakota where he met and married Elaine Spears. After moving to Platteville, Colorado, he worked as a construction foreman for many years on several local and distant projects. He was later divorced and married Jane Ostermiller. They resided in Platteville where they retired. He enjoyed woodworking and building things, he was very active with the Elks, Masonic Lodge, Carpenter's Union and the V.F.W. He also was an avid classic car enthusiast. Survivors include his son, Brad of Blunt, SD; step-daughter Tammy (Adam) Peck of Platteville; grandchildren, Shelby, Bruce, Kris, Dustin, Kenny, Curtis and Ashley along with many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; and son, David.
