William Thomas Hansen, age 64, died on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at his home in Greeley after a long illness. Tom was born March 3, 1943 in Southhampton, Long Island, New York, the son of William T. And Gertrude L. (Hulse) Hansen. As a child of 10, he moved with his family to upstate New York where he attended school, graduating from New Lebanon High School in 1960. Following graduation he attended Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont, where he met and later married Xana Arango. They had four children. Tom joined IBM in 1968, working for its wholly owned subsidiary, Service Bureau Corporation, for three years. He was assigned to IBM in Poughkeepsie and was subsequently was transferred to the Bangor, Maine office. In 1979, he left IBM to accept the position of Director of Materials Management at Guildford Industries, also in Maine. In 1985, he brought the family to Colorado where he worked for many years as a data processing consultant, first as an employee and later as an independent contractor. For many years, Tom missed the green hills of New York and New England. However, in 1994, he was offered a position of computer consultant in New York City. After much deliberation he turned down the position. The following week he purchased his first pair of cowboy boots and a Stetson hat. From then on he considered Colorado home. Tom joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1966 and was active member for over forty years. He served as a Sunday School teacher in several wards, a councillor in the Bishopric of the Bangor, Maine Ward, president of the Augusta, Maine Stake Mission, high councillor in the Augusta Maine Stake, executive secretary in the Louisville Ward, and most recently, as second advisor in the Centennial Ward High Priests Group. For five years, Tom served as a temple worker in the Denver Temple, a calling which he particularly enjoyed. He is survived by his wife, Xana, and children, Carrie, John, Bethany and Joshua. A funeral service to celebrate Tom's life will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2008 at the Greeley L.D.S. Church, (4th Street & 47th Avenue). His remains will be cremated and his ashes interred in the family plot in Canaan, New York.
